JAMUNA - JAMDANIS

Jamdanis of Bengal are the ultimate weaves with its loom embroidery in weft at every pick. The most capable jamdani weavers are able to weave patterns with out the aid of any mechanical device though they used the jala ( pattern harness). Minute changes of scale , direction and layout in the motifs result in a sense of subtle spontaneity. Bengal’s historical link with Varanasi, could well have provided access to the use of jala, a remarkable network of threads capable of lifting even single warp threads for the finest patterns.
